On April 30, 2024, the Dhaka Citian Club, an alumni organization of Dhaka City College, distributed 1000 bottles of water and 500 caps under the Agargaon metro station. Two days later, with the contribution from an ex-Dhaka City College student from America, they extended their efforts to Mirpur 13, distributing an additional 1200 bottles of water and 500 caps. In total, they distributed almost 2200 bottles of water and 1000 caps within two days, responding to the ongoing heatwave situation in Dhaka. The rickshaw pullers, drivers, and passersby looked extremely happy with the assistance, expressing gratitude and blessings.
Mohammed Naved Hossain, General Secretary of Dhaka Citian Club (Founder Councilor HSC 91), shared, “Hearing the feelings of the people working in our initiative and receiving encouragement, the difficulty of working went away instantly.” He emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and taking precautions against heat-related illnesses during such extreme weather conditions.
Mohammed Abdur Razzak, president of Dhaka Citian Club and also a founder Councilor of Dhaka City College Student Council HSC 91, expressed, “I will not say that our initiative is very big, but we have tried to do as much as possible from our side. I hope you will all come forward. We will participate in many more social activities in the future, in sha Allah.
At one stage of the program, a rickshaw puller said to the president of the Dhaka City Club, “Sir, I want to say something on camera.” To which he replied, “When we rickshaw pullers travel from one place to another, we become very thirsty. Besides, these days it’s too hot to bear. In such a situation, their initiative is like a blessing to us. If someone takes such a good initiative in this heat, they earn our respect from the bottom of our hearts.”
